On the south-eastern coast of Mani, about 40 km from Gythio, in the beautiful blue bay of Alypa, lies the comfortably furnished Alypa Pyrgos. The former Mani residential tower of the local family from 1899 was renovated in 2011 and converted into a vacation home. The old fortified residential tower, characteristic of the tower architecture of Mani, is built high and narrow from thick stone walls and extends over three floors.
On the first floor of the house is the kitchen with direct access to the entrance and courtyard terrace.
A spiral staircase on the corner wall of the kitchen connects the two upper floors of the Alypa Pyrgos. It leads to the second floor to the large bedroom, which is separated from the spiral staircase by a door. The living room and shared bathroom are connected to the bedroom via a small hallway. Above the living room, on a gallery due to the high walls on this floor, there is another open bedroom (room height 1.80 m) with two single beds. The living room leads directly onto the terrace in front with a large patio table. Directly from the terrace, an external staircase leads down to the entrance and inner courtyard terrace on the first floor.
On the second floor of this comfortable vacation home is the master bedroom with its own bathroom and direct access to the roof terrace with spectacular views of the sea, the surrounding countryside and the residential towers of the district. This bedroom is also separated from the spiral staircase by a door.
As in all old settlements, the houses are built next to each other. This former mani tower of the extended family was divided up over time and successfully converted into three residential units after the last renovation. The two other residential units are used as private vacation homes.
Just a few steps along the paved path lead to the beautiful pebble bay with its crystal-clear sea. The taverna directly on the beach provides for your physical well-being. The public parking lot is 200 m away; in the early and late season you can usually park in the settlement, about 20 m from the house.
A special vacation home for people who like traditional architecture, appreciate the old and would like to spend their vacation away from the tourist crowds directly by the sea and in unspoilt nature.
A parasol will be set up on the beach for guests of the Alypa Pyrgos. Chairs are available to take to the beach. Bathing shoes are recommended.
The location of the vacation home is ideal for excursions to southern Mani. It lies in the heart of the traditional Mani villages with their old fortified and residential towers. Alika, Vathia and Lagia are the best known of these. Gerolimenas on the south-western side of Mani and Cape Tainaron, the southernmost tip of the mainland, are well worth a visit.
