Νιο Horio is a village in the district of Apokoronou. It is located west of the community of Vamos and at a distance of 23 km. from Chania. Famous beaches such as Kalivo, Georgioupolis and Almyrida are a few km away. It has an altitude of 100m. and a population of 530 inhabitants. The village produces enough citrus fruits, oil, wine, pork, beef and mutton. The inhabitants grow olive trees, orange trees, lemon trees, citrus trees, mandarin trees, grapefruit, avocados and vines.
It is reported that the oldest name of the village was Kamares from the many arches that existed.
The village was built before the time of the Turkish occupation, in fact, buildings from the Venetian era have been preserved.
