Built out of natural stone, following the traditional architecture of Hydra, this house was intended for personal use, and as such, everything here has been designed with the utmost care and love.
?he ground floor consists of a living room with a comfortable sofa and a fireplace,where there is also a small collection of books and DVD’s that you are welcome to use; a well equipped kitchen, with a fridge, a stove, and a dish-washer; a small storeroom, where there is also a washing machine; an indoor bathroom; and a cozy dinning room that can easily accommodate six.
From the open entrance hall, stairs lead up to the second living room, where there is a low comfortable 1 x 2m sofa which can turn into a bed for a nice siesta. On this floor, there is also a bathroom, and the three bedrooms. The first bedroom is 7 square meters, with a 1.60 x 2.20m bed. The second bedroom is 8 square meters, with a 1.80 x 2.00m bed. The master bedroom is 10 square meters, and is equipped with a queen size 1.60 x 2.00m antique bronze bed. In the master bedroom there is a door that leads to a terrace shaded by a pergola and an outdoors bathroom.
A 200 years old large olive tree (our beloved friend Clara), offers its shade on a large part of our private yard. Here, a comfortable bamboo sofa and two recliners offer another option for a siesta and there is also an outdoors six person dining table.
Our guests will have access to the entire house and garden, and wireless Internet connection is available free of charge. Both living rooms are equipped with TVs and sound systems. During winter and early spring, wood will be available for the fireplace and electrical heaters will be warming up all the rooms. During summer, ceiling fans provide comfortable cooling in all bedrooms and the upstairs living room.
We are offering free housecleaning service once a week, as well as clean sheets and towels. If additional cleaning services are needed, they can be arranged for 10 euros per hour.
Upon arrival, there will always be someone waiting for you to show you around , and whom you can contact for any help or information you might need. The scenic stone stairs will take you to the house in about a quarter of an hour on foot. Donkey or mule transportation can be arranged for your luggage from the port to the house.
The Isle of Hydra is a unique location. Despite its very cosmopolitan nature, its traditional charm remains unspoiled. The island has a hospital and its pharmacies are fully stocked. Cars and other vehicles are prohibited and transportation is strictly by donkey, horse, mule, sea-taxi and smaller boats, as the location has been declared preservable and under archaeological protection. The only exception to this rule is the garbage truck and the fire department truck. You need not worry, though, as the distances are short and walkable, and many come to appreciate these walks as an essential part of their vacation.
Transportation is usually by flying dolphins (hydrofoils) that leave from the port of Pireaus and take 1-1.5 hours. You can also get to Hermione by car, where you can cross to Hydra with a boat that will take about 15 minutes.
