If you go as far as Kalyves (9 km), there is a nice sandy beach and Vrysses (4km) you will find big supermarkets where you can buy anything you like. You'll find friendly residents who always look to invite you for coffee or raki as you pass from their village.

An important Byzantine church of Saint George, which has been recently renovated, is still preserved, and all indications suggest that it was inhabited since ancient times and was a rich area. The name of the village in the late Venetian period was POMOGNA BAROZZI, which means field and mansion house of the BAROZZI family. The Barozzi family dominated the surrounding area and had plenty of power. When the area was occupied by the Turks back in 1645 the name changed in Pomona and after many years became Pemonia. Every year on 15th August there is the Holy spirit celebration which is the most interesting Cretan festival that happens in Pemonia. It's really nice to make a visit that day.
